Influence of Hatch Strategy on Crystallographic Texture Evolution, Mechanical Anisotropy of Laser Beam Powder Bed Fused S316L Steel

The correlations between process conditions, microstructure, and mechanical properties of additively manufactured components are not fully understood yet. In this contribution, three different hatch strategies used to fabricate rod‐like samples from S316L stainless steel, which further investigated using synchrotron diffraction, optical microscopy, tensile tests. results indicate the presence ⟨110⟩ biaxial fiber textures, whose sharpness depends on applied strategy. Mechanical tests reveal a strong correlation samples’ response observed anisotropy in plane perpendicular build direction. Even though average yield ultimate strengths around 475 500 MPa, respectively, do differ significantly, stress–strain behavior can be correlated with in‐plane anisotropy. Particularly, twinning‐induced plasticity, distinct increase work hardening rate at larger strains elliptical necking some (Goss) texture. These findings that texture design by means applying dedicated effectively tune multiaxial deformation produced laser powder bed fusion.
